Sheboygan Police Dept. Beat Walk

September 5, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us in our collaboration with the Sheboygan Police Department as we take a walk back in time on a beat walk of downtown Sheboygan. Beat walks were the original policing method and allowed the officer to come in personal contact with the citizens of Sheboygan. As the community grew so did beats. As the city expanded beats were scheduled as driving routes through the many neighborhoods of the community. But there was always a foot patrol in the central business district of N. 8th St.

The walk will begin at City Hall with a display of Sheboygan Police Department artifacts and social time. While on the walk, you will learn why beat walks were important in safe guarding our community and learn the process in performing a beat walk. We hope to include some first hand accounts of “walking the beat” from retired officers and will share some interesting stories from the city’s past.

Please meet at City Hall at 6:00 and the walk will begin at 6:30.
