An Important Message from Executive Director Travis Gross: Holiday Memories Updates
With the support of the Board of Directors, I have decided to cancel in-person Holiday Memories for 2020. Due to the caseload of COVID-19 in the county and beyond, I feel we cannot host this event safely for our staff, volunteers and guests. We are also adhering to the recommendations from our State and County authorities that currently do not recommend large group gatherings. Although the staff and myself developed a plan we felt was strong, there is no back-up plan if any of the staff or few volunteers would miss time due to illness or quarantine. The plan works only if we have full staffing.
Even though we are cancelling in-person visitation, the staff and myself have already started discussing virtual events we can host throughout December to highlight the Prange’s animation, Bruce the Spruce and the wonderfully decorated Taylor House, as well as continue to develop the virtual content we already had planned such as Storytime with Santa and Children’s Crafts with Chloe the Craft Elf. This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to creatively offer new programs and a unique experience. Please watch for further announcements of these special virtual events and videos to come soon!
I am truly saddened by this decision and I did not come to it easily. But at the end of the day what matters most is the health and well-being of our community. Holiday Memories is meant to be cheerful and fun and that is how I want all to remember it this year, even if we cannot offer it in the tradition of years past.
Thank you for your continued interest and support of your Sheboygan County Historical Society and Museum.
